I’m taking a $2000 class online (per my boss’s request) and it’s all stuff I could learn from YouTube. I don’t see how this model is sustainable over the long run.

True

How is taking an online class worth two grand?

Do you ever interact with the teacher?

No, they do make you interact with other students.

I couldn’t learn just by talking with other people that all watched the same videos.

Some people could learn that way, but it’s not for me. I need more interaction with the person who knows the subject matter.

I had to petition my employer to allow access to YouTube. Ridiculous.

Really? That is wild

The question is- did you or your boss make time to learn everything off YouTube, or is the 2000$ commitment buying the time for the commitment…

Correct. Paying for discipline. Similar to paying for a personal trainer.

Sometimes it’s worth it. Discipline is the hardest skill imo

I work for corporate engineering consultant firm. Same here. It's use or lose money.

Yes. I have no problem using it, but my frugal nature hates to “waste”

money. They could have just put the money up as a bonus and told me to write up a paper to share with the organization on the topic and allowed me to run free.

I am constantly amazed how many technical questions are answered by an Indian guy with like 12 views on his video.
