I know New Zealand supermarkets are expensive when my first thought of going in to an American Whole Foods is how jaw droppingly cheap everything is.

I wrote a subway ad when I moved to New York from the UK about the price of a cucumber. So, HOW bad is NZ?!
Eggs are over $1 usd per egg.
Or look at these cherries!
I regularly spend $300 to $500 nzd ($180 to $300 usd) for a weeks groceries for two people.
The cherries look delicious but is there not more local produce?
Next time I buy an overpriced cucumber in NYC, I’ll think of NZ. 😅
To be fair, Amazon has done a good job of lowering the prices on their Whole Foods branded items. It’s a great spot now
No you didn’t just say that. 😱
Out of curiosity, are the American food made/grown in the US ? or imported from a cheaper country and exported?
LOL walk into a Costco your mind will explode.
When Costco opened its first store in New Zealand last year it was the thing to talk about nationwide and dominated the news for a week.
Yeah food here is crazy expensive. And everything just went up about 20% or so in the last 18 months.
And you can't buy meat from a local farmer - illegal for them to sell to the public (neither meat nor live animals for the purpose of meat). So it's a good thing I am the local farmer.
