Debut Diaries: Weekly albums, where legends kick off.”

Two Gallants

...are known for their storytelling style, weaving tales of love, pain, loss, hope, and messed-up relationships, all wrapped in a raw, bluesy sound.

Some bands really do start at the very bottom – Two Gallants are living proof. Adam Stephens and Tyson Vogel have known each other since kindergarten (legend has it, after a fistfight). Later came guitar and drums, a string of failed teenage bands – until 2002.

The name? Pure style by chance: both were reading James Joyce’s Dubliners – one of the stories is called Two Gallants. Perfect for two kids kicking off at bus stops in San Francisco, clawing their way up through bars, galleries, and clubs.

2004 brought the breakthrough: The Throes. A raw, gripping debut full of dark tales and wild energy that electrified the scene and earned them their first die-hard fans. From then on, it was nonstop touring across the U.S., with live shows no one forgot.

2006 followed with What The Toll Tells – their masterpiece somewhere between Dylan, Cash, and Guns ’n’ Roses. With Saddle Creek backing them, they hit Europe’s indie scene like a bomb. Next came the quieter EP The Scenery Of Farewell (2007), a few solo detours – and a comeback in 2011.

Finally, in 2012: album number four, The Bloom And The Blight.
