Why not just use WhatsApp like the rest of the world?
Because Americans did SMS text messaging first before the rest of the world, and they've been using it so long they don't want to change.
It's true though. WhatsApp is the world standard. I won't use it because of all the spyware metadata attached to messages.
Mexico runs on WhatsApp. For example, wanna order food? ... WhatsApp the restaurant your order, and pick it up in 30 minutes.

For school it's usually Discord for student groups.
Our church uses GroupMe
Sports teams use Team Snap or Band
A lot of people are using Signal now
Text SNS/MMS is still the most universally used messenger in the USA
I haven’t heard of Team Snap or Band but this seems like a solid answer

Not as common as elsewhere but some do. The cool ones use Signal though 😉
