I was recently thinking that Proton should look into adding Nostr sign-in/registration for their services, but then I realized Nostr doesn't need Proton as developers are building all of these tools right now.

I also think proton requires some sort of prior email to sign in or phone number, kind of a kyc. I am sure they say they do this cause of “bots”

A Bitcoin deposit would fix this.

I like your idea better, so to agree with you for another reason

I never gave them an email or phone number. It's not required. Though you can verify and can provide that information for account recovery.

I thought it was a new thing for new accounts?

Maybe I am mistaken… maybe if they think you are using tor or a vpn
