A lot of them aren't actually in any particular alignment, but people sat they are (including the academics). Stone henge, for example. You can position yourself wherever you want to get an "alignment" with solstices and such, but that doesn't mean ancient people did that. You can also do that with a tree. The position of alignments thousands of years ago were different, too.
