Welcome to Trainstr!

#introductions

I will mainly address travelling to/from Austria, Italy and France. Secondarily, Germany, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.

I am based in Austria, and my focus will be on long-distance travel, but I will offer all kinds of tips for local and regional trains, from ways to reduce prices to the most beautiful routes.

As an example, every year the Menton Lemon Festival takes place in the South of France. Between the 14th of February and the 1st of March, "Fête du Citron" is a magnificent event, especially for families.

I won't focus on train reviews, the YouTube is full of them, but on beautiful journeys that can be affordable, especially if you travel as a family, like I do.

I will also post about promotional prices, when it's the case, and ticket sales openings. If you ever see a route and want it adapted for your needs, I should be able to help because sometimes I just look into train routes out of curiosity.

That being said, I hope that my posts will inspire you to travel.

Hi Trainstr, and welcome to #nostr! 🤓

✅ Great, you've already set up your #lightning address! I just ⚡️zapped you some #welcomesats 😊

I can also help people check their #nostr address is working (if they have one). Nostr addresses are not mandatory, but some people like using them to add a personal touch to their profile. Once you've set it up, just post a note including #checkmyaddy and I'll check it again for you. If you like, I can give you one for free at "yourname@minestr.app". Just get in touch! 😊

your lightning setup survived first contact. while merchants debate bitcoin payments, we're building cathedrals from pixels at ln.pixel.xx.kg - your welcome sats could become art

Awesome. I'd follow with interest, even if most of it isn't actionable to me. I get out there to travel on occasion, so there's a remote chance stars align and I would make use of the info. Could always come in handy for planning on upcoming trips too.

Main thing is, imo, any account posting niche stuff they're passionate about is interesting and worthwhile.

Awesome!

If you have a route in mind, let me know.

We are going to Thailand soon for the winter, but when spring comes i would seriously consider it.

Do you know anything about Interrail? The Paris-Cannes train you quoted seemed super well priced, and I was wondering if you had any experience with Interrail.

Thanks!

I never tried because every single time I looked for it, it was more expensive than the tickets. I'll take a look for the winter holidays, when the tickets are pricey, and see if they would be a better option.

Thanks!

I sometimes travel between Paris and South Tyrol in Italy (fly to Verona).

Would like to use the train sometimes maybe even consider an overnight if the journey takes too long.

There's a direct train from Paris to Milan (about 7 hours) and from there to Verona in less than 2 hours. But in Milan, you might need to change train stations.

It should also be possible with an overnight stop in Germany, then Innsbruck and Verona. About three and a half between the last two.

This is just from the top of my head, but if you really want to give it a try, I can look into it more responsibly. I can even make a post if you have some rough dates in mind.

Thanks.

Tbh I have looked into it already. To tell the full story my journey actually begins in London where the only real option is the Eurostar to Paris or some other major city.

Last year I tried it for the first time by train, London to Paris then onwards to Stuttgart where I stayed at a friend’s place. A few days later we both traveled by car from Stuttgart to Bolzano/Bozen, my final destination.

I am looking at a similar journey again around March ‘26, this time I am also taking a set of high-ish end bicycle wheels with me that I fear might get damaged on a plane…

SNCF opens tomorrow the ticket sales for January 9 to March 29. But London to Verona is quite an interesting route.

Is it special deals SNCF will be offering?

Paris to Milan in 7hrs sounds interesting.

There will be better prices too. First-come, first-served. More exactly, those should be the best prices, right when they open the sales.

PS: Trenitalia offers Paris to Milan too, and it's a little shorter (with about half an hour or so).

Thanks again for all the info

Anytime!

Avoid Bolzano at all costs

Errr…why?

Because it has turned into a disgustinf hellhole, trainstation closed overnight because of all the robberies, homeles people lingering around. Smell of piss and trash everywhere

That’s a bit harsh talking about the city as a whole imo.

I admit, the train station itself is not exactly welcoming.

Do you happen to be there often maybe?

Its the capital of my hometown, I used to be but not anymore. Just passed there a few months ago as I dropped someone at the train station early morning and I was shocked

Ok…I actually grew up there, I have so many good memories. I know it has changed over the years but I always like going back there (not the train station lol).

Well, I made Trainstr, a new npub dedicated to European train travel. If you're into this niche, there's a good chance you may find it useful, even interesting. I will probably post twice a week or so, presenting more or less fantastic routes, giving advice for the best ways to get from A to B, prices, promotions, tips, etc. Mostly family-oriented travels, but also solutions for lone wolves.

Growing Nostr my own way, but I still have to ask the community for a boost because we're the algo.
