Native grasslands (savannahs, prairies, etc), 99% of which have been removed from North America, have been shown to be even faster and more effective carbon sinks than forests. Plus they can be reestablished in less than a year.

Combine native grasses with a syntropic agroforestry technique. Gain economic crops and capture carbon +biochar. This can all be done mechanically lowering overhead and initial investment.

The interesting part about trees isn't the carbon capture,

It's the rain filtration & transport meanwhile building soil, providing biomass, & establishing habitats for more wildlife.
