By presuming Putin is irrational, you rule out any possibility of peace talks, or any possibility of gaining the understanding necessary for negotiating such talks. The piece is not pro-Putin, it is pro-understanding-Putin. Sun Tzu long ago instructed us to "know your enemy." Why is that seen today as a bad thing?

Russia's invasion makes sense to them. If Russia tried to get Canada or Mexico to join a new Warsaw Pact, then the USA would probably invade.

On the other hand, the West's strategy with Ukraine is also rational. Russia and China supplied Vietnam during the Vietnam War and we are doing the same.
