I assume this is less about understanding Bitcoin's potential and more about coming to terms with a limitation or issue with BCH.

What was the straw that broke the camel's back?

I don't know if there are other questions worth asking but of course it is polite to say welcome to our helpful, informative community now that you will be asking really constructive and curious questions and not "gotcbas".

You hit the nail on the head. It was all the splits

I don't spend any time looking at BCH, but I would imagine that mining is fairly centralised, so I'm curious if that is the case and if so, why forks would happen so often?

My initial guess is that there are dominant miners taking food out of the mouths of the non dominant miners.

Maybe we can learn some from them just as much as they could learn from us.
