Thoughts on umbrel vs mynode vs citadel or any other alternative?

Looking to setup both a Bitcoin and LN node. Will be my first time setting up a node. I'm pretty capable but not a dev so ease of use is important but I also enjoy tinkering.

I plan on setting up two VM instances on a single machine (it's only use is for running these nodes/related apps). Will I need to run two separate VM, one for Bitcoin node and one for Lightning node/apps or can they both just live in a single container? I'm a bit confused because I've heard people say they should be separate, but I also see support for both products in mynode for example. Is it better to run two seperate VM with an instance on each, one running Bitcoin and the other Lightning?

Basically... I have a single machine to dedicate to Bitcoin/LN stuff. How should the stack/architecture look?

Also, big thanks to everyone who helped with comments on my previous note regarding hardware. I tried to zap everyone that commented, let me know if I missed you!

Start9 Embassy gets my vote. I have that and Umbrel, and though Umbrel's UI is better, it's been incredibly buggy for me. Constantly having to troubleshoot it. If you turn it off, you might not get it to reconnect again without having to reflash and start over.

Oh yeah constant troubleshooting will get annoying over time. Is the start9 software free open source?

Yes, search this page for "open source" to learn more: https://start9.com/

Not had this issue myself with Umbrel. I've had others, but nothing that required serious troubleshooting, more of the Apple style "it's too simpled for it's own good" issues, mostly fixed by just SSHing into the Docker containers.

But yes my upcoming post will compare multiple options. Plenty available and designed to be under friendly.

Bloody typos... you got what I meant to say haha. Sleeping pattern is all screwed up atm.

You can go as complex as you want... take this example https://gildedpleb.github.io/hab-guide/ :) , if it's your first time, maybe all in the same place will help a lot, once you have a couple of months then you could improve the architecture, my 2 cents.
