chatgpt & I did the math and we suspect the distance from the north pole to the firmament is at least 25,000 KMs, although I think it might be more.

A high altitude air balloon only goes up to about 40km, not even close to touching the firmament.

The map is a little off because chatgpt can't do the Azimuthal Equidistant Projection map correctly.
