Sending btc to cold storage was expensive today. For future reference, if my tx keeps getting bumped in the mempool, will it eventually get sent back to my wallet? Is there a time limit, or will it just sit there until i increase the fee i will pay? #asknostr #fees

Yes. Eventually if it doesn’t make a block the tx will just get cancelled and go back to your wallet and you could resend it later. No hurt in letting it sit a Mempool. It could be roughly 2 weeks before it gets returned Or purged from Mempools.

Thank you for the explanation.

Anytime! Happy to help if I can.

I once waited 3 months for my transaction to make it into a block.

Oof

From blue wallet to lnd wallet

Doh! Okay maybe even longer than ~2weeks. 😑😑 kinda just depends if it makes a block or gets purged for being way too low. I know Mempool.space shows a “purge” anything under a specific sat v/byte

Ha! Funny thing is, in the background of fiat system that’s probably normal for final settlement but we don’t see that. I once waited 3.5 months for a transfer from Italy to arrive in account in Spain and neither sending bank nor receiving bank could tell me what was going on. Found out it was the intermediary holding it up. Most transactions in eu go through Deutsche bank. I suppose you receive when and if that insolvent fuck up has liquidity!

imagine it was your rent payment

Depends on the specific nodes mempool policy

Default is to prune over a certain threshold (usually 300MB) or after 2 weeks

But some mempools may reject it faster or keep it longer

Check the purge limit on mempool.space

Yeah, after reading these replies i think i know how to figure it out for the next time. Thank you😊

I know in Strike, I can choose slowest speed for free transfers to my wallet.
