One day working with network installers the fact that the wires inside an ethernet cable are different lengths comes up. One guy doesn't believe it. We explain they are twisted different which you can see and that adds up over time. He doesn't believe it. We had a tool handy that is used for finding cable faults. It measures how long it takes for an electrical pulse to bounce of the end of a wire and return to tell you how far away the break in the wire is. We test a 50' cable, it shows the pairs are all longer than 50' and 2 are longer than the other 2. He insists something is wrong with the tool and goes to get his own. His shows the same lengths. He insists we must be pulling some kind of trick on him. We offer to pull apart the 50' cable and stretch out the wires. He says we must have some way that is part of the trick too, it won't change his mind.

This is what I think about people excited to vote for someone who has already held an office. I think about it every election.
