I have really struggled with direct seeding greens into my garden trying a different method. Will see how it goes. And report back with results if it’s worth talking about.

What are you direct seeding?
It was spinach and I have thick mulch wood chips. What I thought I could do was pull back the chips till I hit dirt in a v shaped trench and drop seeds in the v. But what I think happened is the mulch settled over top and smothered.
I have to use a lot of mulch where I am (9b)
but I usually have to run a lot less when seeding spinach (a winter crop here).
I have found it really hates to push through much material above it.
Thanks confirms my suspicions. What I’m trying now is that I have pulled back a foot width strip of mulch. And scattered the seed along that strip. Doing various green this way.
Thinking I water everyday until germination.
Basically whatever it takes to keep the soil fairly damp.
If it doesn't drain particularly well (high clay content for example) water less,
If it drains quickly( loamy/sandy), then more often.
We’ve had good luck putting the seeds into a cornstarch and water mixture. Pour your rows…also works great with 🥕
