Maybe so, it certainly seems like current systems like teslas autopilot was designed by someone that understands computers better than cars. When you navigate a corner, you move from the outside at entry, to the inside at apex, to the outside at exit; autopilot is just keeping you squarely between the lanes, which feels very disorienting because the driver would have slowed down or picked a more appropriate line, it feels like you are going to barrel straight through the lane and off the road. It also doesn't do a great job with shitty country freeways where cars are allowed to cross to the other side, cars will completely clear the lane but the car will just decide to randomly slam on the breaks after the fact. Outside of those major pain points, the adaptive cruise control and lane keeping makes long drives much less tiring when things go right.
