I have about 10 avocados and 20 limes. Not much but better than last year. 3 avocados and 0 limes. Picking next month probably.

yum when ripe
How old are the trees?
6 years
Oh wow. Thats quite a long time. Cold climate? Should really be throwing out a few more by now. Maybe needs good pruninsnd lots of fertilizer after harvest
Do you grow avocados? They take many years to start producing
I did but when I was in Spain. I bought a 3 year old tree. One year later had 4 or 5 tiny fruits. 2 years later and there were more than 50. I gave it quite a big prune year 4 and it really grew but I think it all depends on climate. Am now in Costa Rica and no avocado tree 🙄
Ah. We bought a new seedling basically and on year 2 trees were damaged by typhoon. Then someone trimmed them the wrong way because they had no idea what they were doing and didn’t have permission. I’m hoping next year will be even better. 50 is a lot!! We’re in super warm and humid climate here and last year the trees grew a lot but I think they can easily double in size still.
Growing fruit trees is the height of low time preference reward. I sold house in Spain and moved to Costa Rica and hope the new owner is enjoying it. Lime, lemon, avocado and oranges and my guess is 2 years after he bought the place, he was giving fruit away. Still worth it 100%. I have trouble thinking that he’d remove any of those trees and I really looked after them. Wait till next year. Patience has rewards with trees but don’t be frustrated with the journey! Am doing the same now to be honest. Built house. Realised not what we want so just bought new plot and doing it again. My finger lime, lime and lemon trees out front should start fruiting next year… after have moved on!
But yeah, they take their merry fucking time
I sense some Caipirinhas on the way !
Those look great. Have a friend who was trying to grow limes, and it was taking so long that he gave up. 🤪
Yeah, unless you spray them for bugs, they tend to die fast. I never sprayed and this year they got a bit of a break.
Oh wow. What avocado type it is? Where did you get the graft?
