Some don't know right from wrong because of this. Have you heard of Kohlberg's Theory of Moral Development?

Essentially it's a theory of how we develop morals. 6 stages from birth to adulthood. There's crossover with Maslow's Hierarchy in that if you don't get those needs, morals will be stunted as well.
Unfortunately, not all adults reach the adulthood stage even if they were well off. π
