Nostr is definitely not a place for breaking news. Nobody in my feed mentioned the Boulder, CO molotov throwing attack, except for nostr:nprofile1qqs0w2xeumnsfq6cuuynpaw2vjcfwacdnzwvmp59flnp3mdfez3czpspz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejj76l8lp0, indirectly with a photo of the suspect, and he was making a joke. Searching for "boulder" on Amethyst this morning had very few relevant results.

Nostr is still great, but in it's utility for escaping the onslaught of cynical influencing and rage bait, you lose some connection to facts on the ground.

Most of the news bots are on the masto-slop bridges; at least I think that's why I see very few of them.

You have to follow the ones you want to see. You can always run your own too. That's what I'd recommend. Take your normal news sources, get their rss feed, then spin up your own news bot with https://github.com/0ceanSlim/go-nostrss

Oh yeah. I mean there's something to be said for avoiding the news, since the majority of it is filtered pap that just makes you feel impotently angry or scared.

Ah that’s what you were referring to. One of the reasons why I like using news.utxo.one as my global feed. But I don’t always look at it. I searched for boulder and saw the info right away but totally agree. Wouldn’t have seen it without the top note

It isn’t just that story. It’s pretty much ANY non-Bitcoin related developments in current events. Nostr is not a good source for most news, yet.

few of the articles from that news relay into the main feed (or even make it variable per user choice). But yes I agree. Not yet

A dedicated news feed, or even a dedicated news app, would be my preference. I don’t want it most of the time in my main feed. I don’t follow the news bots or accounts like Flash because it overwhelms my feed. But a quick scroll on a news feed or app to catch up would be perfect. Don’t need to interact with it, just read the headlines and click through to any articles I main want to dig into more. That’s essentially the function X serves currently, until something on nostr can replace it.

I think you would like news.utxo.one

It’s a news relay with all of utxo’s news bots. In Damus, it’s the only one I toggle in global, so global becomes my news feed. In Nostur, I created a relay feed with only that relay. Didn’t try in Primal yet.

I don’t think there’s a way yet to add a relay feed in Primal. Primal does let you add any user’s feed as one of your custom feeds. Too bad relays don’t have npubs. 😂

I guess a workaround would be to add all the npubs of his newsbots in one advanced search and save it as a feed

they could... i was going to add one to my project but the lack of adequate DM supporting clients made me abandon it. the idea was to create a CLI that uses nostr DMs to interact with the relay. could include zapping it to pay subscriptions, setting user settings, organising links to upload and download your notestash
