The most salient lesson I've taken from this situation with Venezuela is that the sovereignty of a courty means almost nothing without a functional military and specifically nuclear weapons.

I'm still working my way through Soft War. It's obvious that 'might makes right' doesn't offer a comprehensive moral framework, but if physical conflict is ignored or neglected everything we own is ours only by the grace of those who choose not to take it away.
