Probably something along the lines of: “it actually reduces waste, because custom parts and products are no longer mass-produced for a small market, and instead offer one or two redesigns as waste. Then the open-source nature provides others the ability to reuse the design and for them to be able to recreate it quickly.” Sounds reasonable to me.
