which is ironic because ive been using a 24 hour clock my entire adult life. but the idea of adding (or subtracting?) 7 (or 8?) hours to that in my head is an impenetrable wall

One of my kids was a math major in college and when I teased him about being slow to add numbers in his head he told me, “mental math is a party trick and real math has letters”😂.
