I find that politely bringing up the point that everything is more expensive is because of these budgets we don’t have any money for can lead to actual, good conversations. I usually get a, “What do you mean?” or a “How?” or a “What makes you say that?” That opens the door for a discussion about the Fed, how our money isn’t tied to gold anymore, etc. I even show them a bill from my wallet and explain why it now says “Federal Reserve Note” and isn’t redeemable for gold as it used to be. I’ve found it breaks down a lot of barriers and the issue isn’t even political because neither side actually wants to bring it up. Just my personal experience, but may be worth a try.
