If you just want a self custody lightning wallet for spending and saving, use Zeus or Phoenix. If you want a ROUTING Node which routes other people's payments that's more complex, raspblitz is where many people start. You probably don't want a routing node.

I want whatever setup gives me monero level or better privacy
https://docs.megalithic.me/category/set-up-a-lightning-node
also this guy is a fucking idiot
but hes the guy for LN guides

dont listen to homie, you have no privacy from Phoenix. although a Zeus node on your graphene phone is a legit option.
Thank you sir, I'll start digging through these 🫡
the more I read the more I want nothing to do with lightning..
the megalithic people also offer a custodial option that you can manage through a web UI.
or there's start9 or something.
but yeah,
every few years I think about it and decide "nah"
The technical requirements are not really the issue for me, it's more that it all just feels so needlessly complicated especially when I know monero exists..
Like maybe I'm missing something here but what's even the actual benefit of LN? Seems to me like mostly just transaction speed and low/sometimes no fees. Unless I'm missing something here, then I'm happy to wait 20 minutes for my xmr to send for 5¢ if it means all I need to think about is not keeping all my money in a hot wallet.
I think I'll wait to deal with L2 bs once it starts becoming needed for monero. Thanks again for pointing me towards some good resources 🫡
it's just like a social network, you are on it because you want to transact with the other people that are on it. if you want to buy things from nostr:npub1uzt238htjzpq39dxmltlx60vxym9fetk9czz6kddq6fhvkf4z3usy9qtrh and zap people etc
Robosats is a major draw, it's pretty easy to find liquidity in and out of Bitcoin as long as the amounts aren't too large. you can also buy and sell Monero for Bitcoin extremely easily there.
I see I see, so ok there's more to it. I guess my main problem then is that I simply don't want btc lmao
as I am First Priest of the Church of Cryptoisomorphism, I try and stay up to date on the different ways to move between chains.
What's your take on xmr->btc atomic swaps, is that a reasonably private way to aquire btc? Assuming all my monero has been aquired through mining and p2p and my cold btc wallet being air-gapped.
The threat model here being theft by the glowies
sure. sounds great, as long as you dont mind dirty Bitcoin.
but *what xmr to btc atomic swap??
Oh wait, eigenwallet (unstoppable swaps) is btc to xmr only...?
I've never actually tried to swap obviously lol are there any others that are generally trusted?
my understanding is that the difficulty in creating specific spend conditions on monero make xmr -> btc swaps hard to do.
but solvable.
for now we have the semi trusted setups like Robosats and Retoswap.
Also re: dirty coins, as long as a way to swap them back to xmr exists, I think I should be ok. I think we won't find ourselves in a future where dirty coins are rejected even by individuals without there being plenty of writing on the walls that btc is dead so hopefully I'll be able to pull out before then.
