my brother in christ you need to click a button to slowly load your follower count

I don't really care that much about my follower count, I get a reasonable amount of engagement with people I want to talk to, and sometimes I get a nice zap that I can forward to developers and newbies.
ok so it’s like a chat app for friends?
Well, I do have mostly friendly interactions on here, I like and respect a lot of the people, and I don't think most of them would have the time to respond to little ol' me if this were twitter so that's cool.
I mean, it could certainly be applied that way, using private relays for instance. Its a protocol that provides a lot of options though, like a more reddit style interface that I'm looking forward to, civkit as a decentralized marketplace sounds awesome. There isn't a defined financial incentive for developing here though, so developers are working as a passion project. It doesn't have the network effect that other platforms have, but all I get out of going to twitter is like 3 cute cat pics then a steady stream of anger.
I think that’s the thing maybe. For me, I view Twitter as a way to reach a large audience. I don’t think nostr offers me that possibility: even the largest accounts here have less reach than I can have on Twitter (and I’m not anywhere near being one of the largest accounts on Twitter!)
This is a fair criticism, right now its for early adopters and nerds who just want to send zaps for the sake of it.
We'll see overtime it things improve and other join. Right now its not for people with "larger" followings abd that's fine. We dont need Kim kardashian here yet.
Of course, maybe that changes with waves of adoption when phone addicted people are left with nothing better to do next time twitter has an outage or rate limits, maybe not, time will tell. I have a day job, it pays well enough, I'm just happy to be able to interact with people on the front lines of decentralized code, like calle, fiatjaf, will and vitor. I can help people switch to graphene OS and Linux, sharpen peoples economic understanding, provide nuance to culturally conservative and anarchist views, and like memes that might make the platform more fun.
I've had the urge to be an influencer several times, I've had mild success on twitter a couple times in that regard, but its not worth the heartache and I fail to have a positive impact. I don't want to be reliant on social media for supporting me financially, so it doesn't make sense for me to engage in farming engagement if it just leaves me angry and tense.
That’s very reasonable, thanks for sharing!
