How does receiver offline cashu work?

If the sender locks the funds while they are online, can they ever get them back if they don't spend it?

Only solution I could think of is locking the the funds until a timeout is reached.

How is this currently done?

There are two spending conditions: locked to receiver pubkey // after X days anyone can spend.

Not sure about how exactly the script looks like, but it's something like that.
