Just tried DeepSeek.

The first thing I noticed is it goes on and on, which is effective for complex queries but is also exhausting if you prefer concise answers.

Secondly, the tone is strikingly different from American LLMs:

Whereas ChatGPT sounds like a neutral and professional Westerner, Claude is similarly Western but with a bit of a cigarette and beret hipster vibe, and Grok is Western but with more willingness to joke around, DeepSeek feels distinctly like a teen from Shanghai or Hong Kong. It’s so casual it borders on unprofessional, as if you’re having a text conversation with a close friend in school.

It is fascinating to see different AI’s with different personalities co-evolve.

I have tried it too, and I agree with your opinion about personality.

But I have noticed its performance in anything but English (and perhaps Chinese) is extremely bad.

Also I don't feel confidence in it, because it throws chinese characters all the time, which means it is heavily influenced by Chinese datasets which are heavily censored and pro-China gov. Be careful. Ask it about Taiwan independence and you'll see what I mean.
