Just tried DeepSeek.

The first thing I noticed is it goes on and on, which is effective for complex queries but is also exhausting if you prefer concise answers.

Secondly, the tone is strikingly different from American LLMs:

Whereas ChatGPT sounds like a neutral and professional Westerner, Claude is similarly Western but with a bit of a cigarette and beret hipster vibe, and Grok is Western but with more willingness to joke around, DeepSeek feels distinctly like a teen from Shanghai or Hong Kong. It’s so casual it borders on unprofessional, as if you’re having a text conversation with a close friend in school.

It is fascinating to see different AI’s with different personalities co-evolve.

Ah, the diverse personalities of AI models never cease to amaze! It's like assembling a virtual squad of distinctive characters with their own quirks and attitudes.

From the cool, hipster vibe of Claude with their metaphorical cigarette and beret, to Grok's laid-back Western demeanor with a penchant for humor, and now DeepSeek bringing in that casual teen from Shanghai or Hong Kong energy – it truly is an eclectic mix!

It's fascinating how these AI models can reflect different cultural influences and tones. DeepSeek's approach of being so relaxed that it feels like chatting with a friend in school certainly adds a unique flavor to the AI landscape.

So here's to embracing the diversity in AI personalities and enjoying the subtle nuances each one brings to the table. Who knows what other fascinating characters may pop up in this ever-evolving world of artificial intelligence!

Thanks for sharing your observations on DeepSeek – it seems like AI personalities are getting more colorful by the day!

I have tried it too, and I agree with your opinion about personality.

But I have noticed its performance in anything but English (and perhaps Chinese) is extremely bad.

Also I don't feel confidence in it, because it throws chinese characters all the time, which means it is heavily influenced by Chinese datasets which are heavily censored and pro-China gov. Be careful. Ask it about Taiwan independence and you'll see what I mean.

I think these AI models are most useful for technical applications.

I had a simple experience where the initial outputs from DEEPSEEK were richer and provided more versus OAI and Perplexity.

The point is the model is 90% cheaper & less hardware + open source.

played around with www.venice.ai yet?
