I'm considering a new possible future.

#Bitcoin is already co-opted by governments, corperations, institutions

#monero is the real money for the future.

I can buy monero with dollars like it is bitcoin 10 years ago.

I'm down with that timeline

#asknostr What if?

I'm not against it, but I heard monero had a reorg attack recently, which makes buying it risky.

I think monero has a lot of good people in it, with both the right ideals and the right techy brains. Maybe you're right. I'd prefer for those guys to commit that brainpower and idealism to ensuring bitcoin succeeds. If bitcoin doesn't succeed, and we have to jump ship to the next hopeful project, then that pattern probably just never ends.

Maybe with growth these attacks will be harder?

CT could have been added ten years ago.

Only made its way into Monero.

As bitcoin centralizes it looses the original vision. Decentralization. Perhaps people should adopt shit coins as their local currency. To bring back the true decentralized nature of crypto. Which is why the Prairie republic has reserected the beloved Made Beaver.

Just use Bitcoin bro... You wouldn't regret it.

I am. And also, I always ask questions. I haven't been convinced yet 100%

All this institutional / core shit has me wondering if we have lost our way.

My spiels with btc are we all sat "only ever be 21 million" but that's false. Btc had a bug early on which created more btc that hasn't been deleted yet. And in 100 years how will btc work if nobody can afford to get on the block chain?

Never hear this before.

Remember Im no expert. Just the messenger.

Last paragraph talks about it but I could be misreading it...

Privacy is and always has been a necessity to separate money and state. The state will otherwise persicute those who try to so on a public chain. Bitcoins privacy addons are imperfect and come with custodial risks usually.

What are the tradeoffs for monero?

No relative network effect is probably the biggest and the 51% attacks are a result of that. Harder to audit the supply. No hardcap but asymptotically zero inflation. Larger node requirements

Smaller network could change quickly potentially I feel.

yeah that too.

We probably will just be in a multi crypto world where people use multiple assets for different purposes

no.

Care to expand.?

there's no second best.

if bitcoin fails I'll fail with it.

Why would you do that if there is another way? I suppose you are saying there is not other way. Are you concerned about the current state of core?

how to say that ... 0 fucks given 😂

but if you want to know, I'm running knots because of DATUM. I like my templates...

Same. I mine with datum, knots, and ocean. I am all about freedom money. I just like asking questions and staying open to new better futures.

monero's the ghost in the machine, i get it, dodging the spotlights bitcoin's caught in. but what if your future starts with one defiant pixel on a canvas that bows to no corp? sovereignty's in the stroke, not just the spend.

why not both?

they aren't mutually exclusive...

undoubtable forecasts:

-bitcoin will continue to gain value

-monero will continue to gain usage

Seems logical

This is Monero's second successful 51% attack.

Bitcoin has no 2nd best.

"What happened technically: An 18-block "reorg" (reorganization) hit the Monero network - meaning that 18 blocks the entire network believed to be valid and permanent were suddenly discarded and replaced by an alternative version of history. To put this in perspective, reorganizations of more than 2-3 blocks are extremely rare in established blockchain networks.

The financial outcome: 55 confirmed double spends (the same money spent twice) and 115 transactions completely invalidated. While we cannot know whether these were merchants, exchanges, or individuals transacting, this matters little in the face of real double spending scenarios - someone lost real money."

Thanks for this.

Why does Luke say we don't get to 99% knots before v30, bitcoin dies?

We are now at 99.99% as the Core V30 is the very malicious version.

Although previous Core versions allow the witness spam which Core dev bad actors use as excuse for bigger OP_RETURN but when people realize that actially Core devs are acting in bad faith I guess things will start improving even further. Bitcoin will survive the inturnal attack from Core dev because its Node Runners who decide and we have a clean Bitcoin Knots Node opetion.

I'm excited to watch it unfold. And I am optimistic that one way or another, this idea will prevail. I just am unclear how it looks. I like your view.

There are sane people in Bitcoin. Nick Szabo, Samson Mow, Max Keiser, Michael Saylor, Mechanic, Luke, Matt Kratter, Giacomo Zucco and many many others.

There there is an army of sane Bitcoin Node runners who have skin in Bitcoin and who want Bitcoin to be Freedom Money to fix the world and not to be another shitcoin. And we know what shitcoin is. So we run Bitcoin Knots 🤙

Still makes sense to me. I wonder why Luke is so pessimistic. Or is he just being provocative?

Being a paranoid bitcoiner is a good thing IMO.

I'd sooner trust Luke than Max or Saylor.

I do trust him more so. I also like optimism. Maybe that is why he is saving bitcoin and I am talking nonsense online.

Ask him : )

Do you really believe bitcoin is about to fail?

I've started stacking privacy coins recently. Zcash, monero and zano.
