I texted my friend who has been keeping all of his BTC on Coinbase to move everything out of there immediately. He just set up his hardware device and sent his first on-chain test before withdrawing the full amount, which scared the living daylights out of him, but it’s done.

He’s never used Lightning before, and I promised I’d help cover his transaction fees if he downloaded Wallet of Satoshi. Anyone want to contribute?

His address is:

Yup sure will

What’s the target Sats to cover the fees. Aprx?

He did the transactions in a few batches so he says it ended up being around 66K sats.

Zapped 6600 sats. 🤙

You rock! 🫂⚡️

He said: “So people just pile on and send their own stats? This is awesome!”

I’ll bring him in here soon, but he’s on Android and I don’t want him to have to suffer with Amethyst.

Anyone recommend a decent app from the Play Store that doesn’t have to be sideloaded?

Seeing sats come into your own wallet out of what seems like thin air is quite a magical experience for sure.

Amethyst is solid, no? Otherwise Plebstr is probably a bit easier.

I’ll see how Plebstr development is coming along.

Left him a little message too :)

I got chu #[1]

Zapped a small amount.

Zapped!!

Done.

Curious why other users should cover fees for someone else? I use it and pay my fees. It's part of using the protocol. If he needs someone else to pay the fees, then he doesn't understand the value proposition.

He doesn’t. I’m congratulating a friend for taking a big leap to self-custody today, and to show him how Lightning and nostr zaps work.

You don’t have to participate.

Done! ⚡️⚡️
