Sounds like you should be talking to other client devs then. I’ve been running my private relay for 3 years and this is the first time anyone has ever mentioned it.

Why? I am not the one that misconfigured my own relays. This is not about clients. It's about configuration. You shouldn't try to force your way into clients that don't support what you are trying to do.
Nobody understands anything you’re talking about. How about starting over by not blaming the users for client developers not making their apps interoperable?

I followed the instructions on this page. Go yell at nostr:npub1aghreq2dpz3h3799hrawev5gf5zc2kt4ch9ykhp9utt0jd3gdu2qtlmhct if their documentation is inaccurate:
“Connect your Nostr client (e.g., Damus, Amethyst) to your private relay for seamless backup of all Nostr activity. In Damus, add your Relay URL via Menu > Relays.”

In a totally unrelated note to your conversation, the private relay on umbrel automatically syncs your notes from some main relays, so no need to connect the client at all 🤗
I don’t think that’s true. I’ve removed it from my relay set before and it stops syncing.
