Guns were banned in Aus when I was only young but I grew up with guns out of practicality - when you have an injured animal you want to end suffering, when foxes are killing your stock you need to control them and when you see a 2M brown snake at the back door you don’t want to be trying to kill that thing with a shovel.
You can’t even have a conversation about guns in Aus anymore though. People are beyond understanding their utility even for the practical purposes I used them for let alone self defense. Shooting is at most a fringe sport (and one of few ways to legally own a firearm), and self defence is basically illegitimate such is the deference to the State.
The cultural shift in 20-30 years is shocking. This is what Americans need to be aware of, how insidious the attitudes of people can be and how that blanket effects others. Even the few Libertarian politicians we have here now oppose gun ownership such is the grip these changes have had on our society.
Never ever give them up - print the shit out of them, give every grannie a gun, normalise them as much as you can because the collectivist types will keep coming for them until they succeed as they did here and before you know it the Overton window is so far gone that they’ll be a forgotten memory.
