Can someone explain to my little peanut brain why anyone would want a Linux distro on their phone?

Command line fun!

Not everyone's idea of fun is the same...

Command line and fun aren't compatible words 😂

Die einen sagen so, die anderen sagen so.

You haven’t lived if you don’t code your own text messages…

Having a Linux distro on your phone could serve many different purposes.

Access to a different variety of software repositories. Using your phone as a server. Getting work done by connecting the device to a larger screen and using it as a desktop computer in a pinch while you are traveling.

Me though the appeal would be to have an entirely Linux powered operating system without the android ecosystem for increased privacy, security, and overall desire to not have to deal with all the bullshit anymore. With graceful root access.

I already have a custom android ROM and I am degoogled. However the ultimate step would be for me to one day get a Linux only phone, but I am not sure it is there yet.

Maybe in the next 2-3 years before I make that quantum leap, but I am looking forward to it.

Hahahaha, yes this.

But also.

So cool.

And you could hook a keyboard up to it and just run a micro Linux device...

Maybe someone who wants a micro computer...

Computers are a lot more open.

Phones suck at directory management...

Most gen Z don't understand folders or directory at all...

Imagine running samourai wallet AND Dojo on the same device. And also sparrow wallet too.

Or for normies, use a phone as a TV media client w/ P2P; ditch the smart tv shit or expensive but only-semi-private solutions.

My phone is a terrible place for Dojo though. I don't need my node with me all the time.

None of what you said makes this compelling to me.

You do need your node with you all the time if maximum privacy & sovereignty is important... but we all can pick our own conveniences.

Freedom?

To do?

If you don't understand why running Linux is better than closed operating systems or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry 😉

I run Linux every day.

I'm asking why doing so on a phone is intriguing to anyone.

Privacy and security is easier on Linux.

I don't want to rely on big tech to grant me access to internet on a smart phone.
