Starting habits is the hard part. You might be able to find running groups, set reminders for yourself, assign yourself consequences for skipping running days, post results for public accountability, get a running mentor/partner. Running with a friend or group is significantly more enjoyable.

I ran cross country too. Find somewhere pretty and calm to run and enjoy the tranquility. Or run with a friend. That was the funnest part of cross country, was just hanging out with friends while running. And if you find a hilly spot, run there and push up the hills. Then running anywhere else feels easy. Start slow. If you go out hard the first day, you get really sore and then it sucks.
