Today I attended another local exhibition. It was based on you guessed it,identity. Each column within this installation is meant to represent the DNA of all the people who attended the church 👀. If you zoom in you can see the portraits of the people attached to the glowing columns.

Thank you 😁 it meant a lot to me at the time. Applying for college, having to pick one race when I'm multiple. Trying to decide which one will benefit me more 🤷🏽
I hate labels honestly
I feel that to my bones 🦴. But different topics. The amount of labels 🏷️ I’ve been labeled since I was born within the medical field and educational system pretty much ruined my childhood and had given me doubt, anxiety and feeling of worthlessness.
For me it was 2 directions.
Race. I was born in the 90s in Los Angeles and weirdly enough when I was a kid everyone was less concerned with race then they have been the last decade or so. I had friends of all races and never felt like I wasn't black enough or white enough to go anywhere or do anything. I was just me. No labels. My actions and my art was how you knew me and you knew my name. Then suddenly you had to start applying for college and grants and submit portfolios and all this shit and it was adults telling me "well I understand you were raised going to pow wows and with native stories mixed with Christian... But you're not enough of a percentage to claim it for money. You are on the other hand black just by saying you're black because of the 1 drop time from slave times🤷🏽"
Now you can't get a job unless your bipoc and all these other things.
The other was that my mom was super conservative growing up and my dad was a Democrat. I just wanted to be left alone and not argue. It's an issue thing, not a team thing.
So I just hated being out into all these little boxes but other people I never even asked for. We know Alexander the Great's name because he did crazy shit. Not because he was a liberal Asian Armenian bisexual animal rights activist🤷🏽
