Zaps are the ultimate, but I still like to get likes. I see there is a movement to get rid of likes, but I still think they have their place. Not everyone can tip much. It's the thought that counts many times.

Agreed they should coexist, they don’t mean the same

This is my sentiment as well. We need to remember that folks will not always be flush enough to throw ZAPS around. That's ok. ZAP when you can.

I also use likes as bookmarks

Nobody is talking about removing likes *from the protocol*. They are already optional. People are just talking about having an option to disable them in their own clients, for example.

Agreed however we all set our own rates, 13 is good for a like for now imho

my zap says: yeah, that’s just your opinion ⚡️🤣

How can I enable zaps ? I am using Damus on iOS and have stored the on adress in my profile, but it’s not working

LN adress

Nip-57 ZAPS are only supported by Damus TestFlight. They will be on the next App Store release as far as I know.

You should start by verifying your account and enabling lightening tips within your profile.

Thx. I have enabled lightning Tipps. No other iOS app there yet ?

I used to think that.

But likes aren’t proof of work and are a vestige of fiat legacy social world. They’re lazy (not pointing a finger I still do it too, all the time) and have zero value when they’re not gamed by an algo.

We don’t need likes if we’re all engaging through words and deeds. Think about it, you can run an army of bots to like the shit out of a post. How much costlier is it to do the same with zaps and cogently written notes? You need Bitcoin and AI/Humans and it has real world cost.

What do you think?

Likes are still and indication of positive reach, but zaps allow people to make a splashy indication of support

Proof of work is needed. Everyone can afford 1 or 2 sats for good content. I think it's a better indicator for posts of real value.
