I have worked my way through this French book with my teacher from high school over the past two years. Just now starting on my third notebook! We meet once a week. I am not fluent, but all the building blocks are there.

Ancient Hebrew and biblical Greek, Akkadian, Sumerian, modern Greek, restudy Latin, possibly Ugaritic, and one of several of the languages that apparently have no known roots.
And yeah, English is awful, but... I grew up utterly biased against French, mostly thanks to Monty Python, and I see no reason to change my opinion on a language with too many vowels for no good reason. 😎
