No one is saying you cant send data tonodes that want it, they are saying let me choose what goes through my node.

I agree with them that op_return is the correct place to store arbitrary data.

Why I oppose the change is because they aren't making any effort to stop those other uses and they went straight to no limit.

The boat is sinking and it is tipping because the water is all coming in one side! Quick poke another hole in the boat on the other side! Make it even bigger so the water on that side catches up!

Great question. I'm not a core dev. My point is that the devs are saying that poking extra holes somehow solves the problem. People are already using witness data at a discount they won't switch to op_return unless they want to make even bigger blocks.
