I have a dumb BTC question: what makes some wallets better than others?

Green, blue, sparrow, etc. All seem to function about the same.

What qualities do you need for a wallet? What are your use cases for your wallet?

Are you asking about hardware or software or both?

Let's make sure we use the most correct language. All wallets are software. There's no such thing as a hardware wallet, only signing devices. #normalisesigningdevice

True enough. Bitcoin itself is software. Undeniable, really.

This was a thing I had to learn a few months ago. It was painful. LOL

I agree. I had never thought of it because that's how it was explained to me in the beginning but that is not what it is or should be called, at all. Lesson learned. That being said, I use all of them (Except Blue) but Sparrow is my favorite. It looks rather intimidating at first but once you figure it out it's very clean and easy to use. And from what I understand you can use it with any and all of your signing devices.

Thank you.

open source

low level mgmt of utxos

easy integration to my node

I use sparrow

Sparrow seems to often be regarded as "the best." I'll have to look into it more closely.

Fee control, mixing tools, no shitcoinery of any kind, low profile devs, no politics

This ^^^

Not all offer fee control, and some only basic.

Bitcoin only leaves less attack vectors.

Thanks, you guys. I have more to learn now.

It depends on your use case

Well, what's yours? What use cases are there?

I can give you a unique one at least, but this is a limitation of tax software, not wallet software. We need multisig, but most tax software can't handle it.

I'm going to be honest:

I will never pay taxes on any BTC I may or may not have. I'm drawing that line and the IRS can come at me all they want, I will quite literally die on this hill.

But that is a fascinating use case for multi-sig!

It's worth paying tax in some use cases. I don't think it can be avoided one way or another. If you have a normal job then you are likely paying taxes. So either way you are giving them a part of your life. To distinguish how you give them money is kind of irrelevant. What matters more is how much money you give them. That hill I will die on.

I have no choice with the regular, automatic deductions from my pay.

They will not, however, get my BTC.

Come work for bitcoin. We have cookies.

That's a goal, but it's not possible in my line of work, and it might not be possible in the career change I hope to make in the next couple of years.

The counterfeit class has created their own economy, and we must create our own. That's the only way we are going to win.

Yes. For sure. I'm nearly ready to live that pirate life. LOL

My glock and .300 Win Mag are ready to go! 👍 #DarkHumor.

I start with my trusty Mossberg 590 loaded with slugs. That reminds me, I need to get a bayonet to install on it. For reasons... 😁

And a Mossberg 590?! 👀 What are you defending yourself against?! Grizzly bears?! 😅

IRS or ATF agents wearing soft or plate body armor. With an ounce of lead flying at 1400fps, it doesn't matter what armor they are wearing, it's going to hurt enough to drop them for an easy followup shot once all standing targets are neutralized.

LOL! Yea, mate! No doubt, but... you won't need a follow-up shot. 12 gauge steel slugs?! 😅 One shot is more than enough.

Yes, but I'd have to make those. Not impossible, but, not currently in the plan. Lead is more than fine for the purpose at hand.

And also like your 300 winmag isn't complete overkill for two legged critters. LOL!

True enough. It's just your standard Remington 700. Illegally bought... so... ya know 🤫.

Good.

700s are great!

In all honesty, I've been considering switching the barrels for a .338 Lap Mag or 6.5 Creed. But, .300 Mag ammo seems to be easier to get your hands on. 🤷‍♂️

Then that's what you should stick to.

You yanks have it easy! 😅 Ya have any clue how bloody difficult it is to get a firearm certicificate in the U.K.?!

Yes. A bit.

But it's about that bad in some states here.

My mate in the NSA wants to know what state you live in. 🤣😈

🙄

The NSA can gargle salty balls. 😎

In all seriousness, is it mostly like that in the west or east coast?

Both, annoyingly. But, tastes changing. It's becoming more legal in more places, much to the satanic pedo cult's chagrin.

Frankly speaking, I'm actually quite grateful. Grants me the privilege of remaining off of the government's radar.

I've been on their radar since I joined up. 🤷‍♂️

I don't believe Green or Blue wallet offer this feature. Derivation paths can be rather intimidating to engage with. Especially for BTC newbs.
