Do any antiques actually go up in terms of real value? 🤔

Coins?

... Not that I'm interested, but I did inherit some. Many are certainly more valuable than their fiat value I would assume.

But are they more valuable than what they were when in circulation? I would doubt that.

Ie. If you have a dollar coin from 1913 and it could by 10 loaves of bread in that era, could it's antiquity afford 10 loaves of bread today?

I see what you mean. I don't know. It wasn't my interest so I don't really even know what I own. Would be interesting to check current value, but no way to know the cost basis.

Certainly when you factor in storage and preservation costs, it makes no sense.

The only logical reason would be sentimentality.

Real value? Doubt it... Maybe an engine that doesn't need a computer chip connected, but idk. Maybe a hand operated water pump. Maybe those sterling engine pumps that they used before electricity.

Some rare items maybe if you find the right buyer. Things like antique furniture might hold value better compared with the modern mass produced ikea crap but maybe not truely increase in value.
