So for a long time, I was struggling to put my finger on why I was so unimpressed by characters like Rey from The Force Awakens, Tauriel in the bloated, cartoonish Hobbit trilogy, or the sad caricature of Galadriel in the epic turd that is Rings of Power.

Well, a couple of weeks ago I posted a link to a video by The Critical Drinker that nailed it. Contrasting the qualities of well-written female heroes with their poorly-written, paper-thin counterparts.

But I know the Drinker isn't for everyone and fair enough. He can be pretty abrasive. So here's another video that covers the same ground, with the rough edges sanded off.
