Is anyone doing milk kefir, water kefir, or kombucha? I'm looking for different strains to broaden my gut bacteria. I'm doing homemade yogurt and kombucha now. I had the idea last night to see if anyone in here knows the history of their grains/strains and if they were bred for different uses or reasons. I was thinking about doing multiple smaller batches of different types to provide some variation for gut health. Anyone have any starter they would care to trade or sell? #asknostr #kefir #kombucha #fermentation #guthealth #grownostr

I'm doing oat kvass...
I had never heard of that. Thank you for letting me know. Doing a little research it looks like it is really good Prebiotics that would help all gut bacteria. Do you put in a special strain or starter to keep it consistent or do you let each batch go with the natural surrounding bacteria? Why do you prefer oat kvass over other fermentation?
I discovered it recently, and it seemed quite easy to make, so I decided to try...
I'm doing everything from scratch, mixing the oat with water, sugar, and raisins, for a few days. That's going to be the starter.
I also ferment honey with garlic and various spices. (Long process)
Another one that I make is fermented ginger (grated). I will add it to lemonades, or use it as starter, to ferment pineapple juice.
Very cool. I am maybe signing up for to much but I'm currently trying to brew kombucha, milk kefir, and water kefir, and sour dough and see which ones I like and which ones for my life style best. They ask have different strains and benefits so hard to choose just one. #ferment
We do Kombucha, but love milk kefir. Milk kefir made the biggest improvement on my gut health. I used to be pretty dairy intolerant, but I can handle most things now.
Kombucha is less about the microbes and more about the acids and antioxidants and other stuff.
I would be happy to give you a starter, but I'm in Australia.
