Either go ICE, or full EV. Hybrids are worst of both

I have a Volvo had hybrid option. Once add the weight of batteries seemed like spending way more to buy than saved long term.

Yea was about to ask about this very thing next, glad u brought it up. So what u got rid of the hybrid and are now full gas?

I bought the non-hybrid to begin with. 👍 Now they have full EV which makes more sense.

Everyone's situation is different. I think hybrids can make sense if you do lots of short trip driving local, and are charging off of excess solar production. What you get in flexibility you sacrifice in efficiency, and to some extent, space.

I couldn't make even a full EV work when I was employed as the distance creates mileage anxiety and you have to drive a lot to break even on the added cost of an EV vs ICE.

Great points and ones all should consider when weighing their options. My father was also telling me it's not a good idea for constant long travel... though I'm unsure how reliable that assessment is 🤷‍♂️

Although if it is hybrid can't u just top it up with gas when u run low?

The hybrids I've looked at can only go short distance on electric (e.g. 30-60 miles). This makes them fine if you are doing short daily driving around town (dropping off/picking up kids at a school, grocery shopping), but for anything beyond half the range away, you're just toting the added weight around and relying on ICE to generate.

I have relatives that have a hybrid that works great for them. But they are retired, live in a flat area and all their basic needs are within 2 to 3 miles of home. They will never drive the vehicle enough to recover the added cost paid up front, but they like it and think it's good for the environment.

Awesome points thank you for your honest and expounding on that.

Heard someone say if you really care about the environment a hybrid or plug-in hybrid would be the better choice due to conflict mines with questionable human rights practices making the mass amounts of lithium and other minerals required for full EV not the most socially conscious decision.

But who knows? 🤔

Play save and clean. Go with gasoline.

Yes. It is unreal. We did both hybrid and gas. The hybrid is good and the gas is an absolute mind change

Was telling my brother a hybrid is better in case of emergencies too because u have the option for gas.

Do u still see a hybrid as better than a full electric?

And which hybrid did u end up getting if u don't mind me asking.

Only ones I saw were the Toyota ones like the Camry I think it was or Corolla and the Prius

Friends love Prius and Camry seemed like second fiddle relative to mileage on Prius. ID.4 now and never get petrol even on 3.5 hour drives, snow tires make it outstanding in winter, and traffic is fantastic not polluting or spending $$ in the EV. never buying a gas car again. Fixing old Jeep for off-road and long trips forever. Otherwise EV has changed me

Interesting. Is that the car you're using now? The Prius? I like the new ones, never thought I'd be saying that about a Prius but it is super practical.
