Can nostr clients handle connections to many many relays if people are exclusively using their own personal relays with outbox?

It depends on how many people you follow / or each of your follow lists have. 100-relay connection is perfectly fine. Anything over 1000 people is hard. But I think over 1000 follows is mismanaging your follows.

Over 1000 is common now.. Wen add-to-list direct from amethyst? 🥳💎🚀

I've probably said this before, but this seems like a good place to use (a network of) caching proxies for reads. I wonder whether software like Squid could be adapted to our purposes?

There's also the old NNTP model, but all that storage space and indexing was really a bitch back in the day!

Would it need "intelligent" relay connection management? I can't imagine having 100 open websocket connections on a mobile browser would be great for performance.

It would make it better, but it's not a requirement
