My sister was explaining TikTok algos to me one day, and I told her it wouldn't fly on Nostr because we don't have a captive audience that'll just lap up whatever you out in front of them. And that you'd probably have to pay people to be forced to look at your content.

Nostr helps you see what was made for an algo vs what was made as art or sharing info.
The switch to consuming information via vertical videos completely changed how people make videos and shortened our attention spans.
How much of the way we create is influenced by algos vs the medium of how we consume content.

I think both the algo(s) and the medium influence what is created, but I think they have different influences. Algos have more influence on the “why” because we are no longer making content for an audience, but rather for the algo to serve that content out. Otherwise it won’t get seen, so getting the algo’s attention becomes the “why.” The medium has more influence on the “how” because a vertical format will require different methods than a landscape or square format. Algos also may favor certain formats/mediums over others, so ultimately I think the algos have more influence than anything.
The algo doesn’t clap, it doesn’t laugh, it doesn’t even care. It just coldly decides if you exist. Nostr flips the script. Make art, share truth, and let humans not robots decide what’s worth seeing
