Taking money by itself would not worry me, but #SimpleX having to return it does.
Still, SimpleX by itself is supposed to be a protocol, isn't it?
Sketch for sure. But the protocol is open source and you can run your own simplex server built from scratch. Also the fact that you can spin up usernames not tied to even an email address is impressive. Curious, what exactly outside of this money item concerns you ( if any) ?

I still like Briar as a base chat app tbh thanks to its mesh networking capacity.
Take a look at xmpp, it's the best open chat protocol that exists since 1999. WhatsApp, Facebook, Google, signal they all use it. They can implement simplex too and NPCs will use their closed version. I use xmpp on my server, and anybody can do it, but who wants to pay the price of freedom?
