Just stumbled upon the art of the Ife Empire which was a Yoruba kingdom in what is now Nigeria and Benin in Africa.This kingdom lasted between 1200 to 1420.

And I’m stunned.

This is beautiful, breath-taking work that’s highly sophisticated – technically better than what was being made in Europe at the time.

Just look at this copper Ife statue. It’s as good as the Venus de Milo. The detail is incredible.

I need to learn more about this.
