Replying to my own question. I think I’m so used to using the pull down gesture on the Timeline in Tweetbot I’d assumed it would work in Damus. If you tap on the Home icon it seems to refresh the feed.

If you go to the universe feed and pull down a couple times, you will see the loading animation. I interpret this is as the same functionality you described
