People with ADHD, how did you get through school?
Discussion
drugs?
A lot of Adderall unfortunately
For me for some reason my hyper focus kicked in at school
In Germany there is a thing where you can do just the exams, that worked for me.
(After being kicked out of several schools)
i was writing everything down āš¼ i guess that helped pretty much
barely. No clue how this led me to Nostr. its a xmas miracle.
didn't. also adhd is another word for "being a young human"
Just work together with your school, doctor, organizations that help neurodiverse kids in school. Thereās support frameworks almost everywhere.
āJustā š
caffeine
Dropped out and traveled the world for 12 years instead
It was tough.
Primary school was hell, had one good teacher and a few friends that made it worth showing up.
Dropped out of highschool when i was 16 and started working, after 6 months went to TAFE and got a year 12 certificate.
If there's anything like TAFE or a community college type thing that they can transition to and finish highschool that way, it was a lot better than finishing school at school would have been for me.
Really don't know what to say about primal school, I used to flip out and throw chairs and stuff when I was really young.
Havenāt been diagnosed w it, also not a parent, butā¦the approach should depend on the severity, it can really vary. Where itās minor, perhaps some sort of outside intervention can help, like a parent devoting extra time to sitting with the kid and helping them stay focused and organized. In the absence of that, some sort of councelor or tutor, Iād imagine. For serious cases, I think the only way is for the kid and parent to accept that theyāll likely never excel in a structured academic environment, and to instead encourage other means of growth.
In the hall and principle's office
It wasn't easy, alot of my school time was wasted honestly.
Had a lot of fun, did the minimum required to get into the university program I wanted. Having that goal probably helped a lot.
