This is exciting πŸ˜ƒ

I am not sure how Tor comes in here. The relay accepts Tor connections. The Hub itself does not have any Tor built in. So we can’t connect to other Tor only lightning nodes currently and if somebody wants to run the hub interface behind Tor then it would need to be separately configured as a hidden service.

But I think only the relay is typically relevant, isn’t it?

When is this happening

Hopefully in a few days. I just need to finish these annoying setting screens.

Looking forward to it πŸ˜ƒ

that's pretty fucking cool. i wish that tor wasn't so ungodly slow. well done though. πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

Kinda why I had to design these settings. It's just hard to force it for everything

Tor isn't that slow, nostr is just horrible at using network resources

Nostr will improve and even if tor doesn't improve the nostr user experience will across clients, especially with new clients and relays that will pop up

LFG

iOS app??

Sorry. Gotta build on an open source stack.

This is awesome, even though the network at my day job blocks Tor. But my *personal* pain point with Amethyst right now is the way it leaves another window open after playing media. Cost me $40+ in data charges recently because I didn't catch it and it sat there playing a video on repeat… 😭

You should set it to no background battery or data usage ?

Is that going to apply to the separate window it spawns?

Yes because the entire app will be limited

Well, I have that set, so we'll see, I guess.

Would rather have Amethyst able to update in the background, though.

Videos are not redownloaded every play time, so It would consume battery but not data. Unless it as an multi-hour long stream. πŸ€”

Might have been a stream. Don't remember exactly what it was. Definitely was from Amethyst, though.

It's not clear to me why Amethyst spawns that separate window in the first place, or why it's so friggin hard to kill. Or why it keeps playing like a zombie even when Amethyst is backgrounded.

My battery drain too fast πŸ₯²

Tor or just base Amethyst?

It doesn't seem to use much more than other social media apps on my phone, but I can try logging into your pub key to check.

Just base, I'm not update to latest version yet. It's using around 15% battery for just 10 mins.

This is really bizarre. πŸ€”

Happens to me, too, I just never thought much of it. I'm on GrapheneOS and try to be pretty tight with what I install and let run. Maybe some problematic relays in bad states or something?

It's a conflict with the rest of the spyware you have on your phone that causes Amethyst to behave in a buggy manner, crash a lot and use tons of battery. For me Amethyst runs super smoothly, never crashes, doesn't use a lot of battery; for others it's the opposite. The solution is to stop using phones.

I decide to use this phone, the battery can last at least a week :).

I don't use other social media to check, maybe it is my phone's problem πŸ˜•

Or just a relay misbehaving and sending the same info over and over again. Any outliers in your relay list?

I will try to use bostr relay instead, only keep my inbox relays. https://video.nostr.build/b0ba8d6ac6e0157ed6a5331814eb7d476bfaa56bd872e5f067a0b87736ad2e97.mp4

Hum.. it could be. I remember that bostr had issue with auth and restarting subs. That could be it. πŸ€”

I've tried bostr relay, but it still use a lot battery, I will test on other phone later.

I don't even know how that's possible. πŸ€”

Maybe too many decryptions on startup?

Maybe πŸ€”. I've a lot of gift wrapped events.

Do you know which relays host them? If so a simple test could be on temporarily deleting that relay.

Are you using nsec directly or with Amber?

I use nsec directly. After remove my inbox relays, the battery improve a lot.

Also, would be a good setting to NOT overload the TOR networks?

Too late to undo this now, you've changed the world
